Training: International Accounting

COURSE DESCRIPTION
CELT Colleges offers a training “International accounting”, which has been designed with a single objective: to get the best out of you. We will support you throughout the course with interactive resources, class materials and Tutor support. All the materials will be handed over to the attendees. Every week the quizzes will be held as well as the final assessment at the end of course. Those who will have passed above 50% will be given a certificate (recognized in Azerbaijan). The course begins with the definition of accounting, types of accounting, basic concepts of accounting as well as covering main accounting topics such as accounting cycle; accounting equation; journal entries related to sales, purchases, collections, payments, and expenses; accounting for gains and losses; accounting of value added tax; accounting of current assets; trial balance, preparation of financial statements, and closing/opening entries and cost accounting.

Syllabus:
1. ACCOUNTING AS AN INFORMATION SYSTEM (4 hours)
-Business activity: companies
-Concept and classification of accounting
-Users of accounting information
– Requirements of accounting

2. ASSETS, LIABILITIES AND EQUITY (4.5 hours)
-Accounting equation
-Definition of Balance Sheet
-Components of Balance Sheets: assets, liabilities and equity
-Different categories of assets, liability and equity

3. THE RECOGNITION OF ACCOUNTING TRANSACTIONS. ACCOUNTS AND THE ACCOUNTING BOOKS (4.5 hours)
-Business transactions
-Companies´ wealth
-Accounting tools
-The Double-Entry System
-Use of debit and credits in double-entry
-The accounting books

4. CALCULATING ACCOUNTING EARNINGS (4 hours)
-The concept of earnings
-Business transactions, fund flows and cash flows, gains and losses
-Accounting for revenues and expenses (capital and revenue expenses)

5: ACCOUNTING FOR INVENTORIES. (2 hours)
-Valuation of inventories (FIFO, LIFO and Weighted average)
-Why LIFO is not permitted under IFRS
-How is the inventory valuation affected by various economic circumstances?

6. FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE EVALUATION (2 hours)
-How to evaluate the financial health of a company
-The possible limitations of financial ratio analysis

7. ACCOUNTING FOR TAX (inc. VAT) (2 hours)
8. COST ACCOUNTING (2.5 hours)
-Compare cost accounting with Financial accounting
-Understand and distinguish the characteristics and behavior of different types of costs including variable, fixed, sunk, controllable, opportunity, etc. Understand how these costs are presented on financial statements.
9. ANNUAL ACCOUNTS (1 hour)

10. INCOME STATEMENT and CASH FLOW STATEMENT (4 HOURS)
-a company’s accounts
-how to read the statements

Available as: Training will be held at CELT’s office
Duration: 2 months
Tuition languages: both Azeri and English classes available (recommended level of English is intermediate and upper)
Individuals and group classes are both available
